POWER-UP!
Pray
To receive the Word literally means to “welcome the Word”. John 1:1
tells us “The Word was with God and the Word was God.” So to
“welcome the Word” is to welcome God into your quiet time. This
prayer is not for the nations or your prayer list! It is simply to
say to God, “Good morning God! I welcome your Word into my life
right now and I look forward to our time together. Teach me not only
to “know” your word but also how to “do” your word.
Observe
It: What the passage means. Observation is the key in understanding
what God wants to teach us. Ask questions of the text like, who’s
talking? Who are they talking to? What’s going on in the culture of
their day and time of the writing?
Take A Pit Stop
Write
It: What did I discover?
About God
About then
About now
About me
Empower
It: This is the application step. How will I apply this to my life
today? How will I be looking for God to use me as a result of what
He just taught me?
Rehearse
It: This is the step that separates the wishers and dreamers from
the visionaries and life changers. Choose a verse from your reading
and write it down. Think on it during the day. Ask God to make it
real in your life through personal experiences. Start now!
Underline
It: Don’t be afraid to underline verses or portions of verses that
speak to you in a special way. Take notes on what God reveals about
Himself to you. Get to know God’s Word as you hold it, mark it, and
take it with you, so that you will be prepared to do the next
thing...
Proclaim
It: Share with someone the truth God has taught you as you go
throughout your day. Nothing will place the Word of God in your
heart quicker than talking about it with others. You’ll be astounded
at your increased memory potential.
