HAVING A MEANINGFUL QUIET TIME
WITH GOD
Pastor Steve Gallimore
One of the most
important things you can do as a follower of Christ is spend time
with Him. As a matter of fact, you will not grow as a disciple
without it. Contrary to what many think, having a meaningful quiet
time isn’t hard, but it does take planning and preparedness. Most of
all, it takes willingness and a desire to spend time with God. I
tried for years to set aside a few moments first thing of the
morning to read and pray, but it was mechanical at best.
But then I learned the
secret: Ask God for the desire and not only will He give you the
desire to meet with Him, but also the power to do it as well. Paul
wrote,
"For God is working
in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him."
Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
So how do you start?
First just do as Jesus instructed – A.S.K.
"Keep on asking, and
you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will
find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7 (NLT)
Ask
God for the desire to get up 15 minutes early as you start your day
with Him.
Seek
God with all your heart – to love Him, know Him, learn about Him,
and live in His power.
Knock
on the door of faith as you “work hard…” (Phil 2:12) and obey what
He teaches you.
This guide is a simple
tool which will assist you in your journey. Make a firm commitment
not to miss a day for 21 days. That’s about how long it takes to
form a new habit. And don’t be surprised that everything that can
happen to disrupt your quiet time with God will happen. Satan does
not want you to grow and he knows that a person spending time on
their knees and in the Word is a dangerous foe!
This guide is taken from
a devotional series I wrote a couple of years ago along with our
staff called POWER-UP. Just follow the simple plan below and I can
promise you this: God will show up, you will grow up, and you will
certainly POWER-UP to meet the challenges of each and every day.
May God bless you as you
take this next step of faith in your Christian journey.
